The Administrative Maximum U.S. Penitentiary in Florence, Colorado houses hundreds of mentally ill inmates in solitary confinement leading to further deterioration of their mental health due to abuse and neglect. Jeremy Pinson, along with others at the facility, has filed a class action lawsuit but the Courts are not enough. Solitary confinement is defined as torture under international law. We the undersigned ask President Obama to support legislation prohibiting the use of prolonged isolation, calling for an investigation of the ADX prison, and having our nation exact the Convention against Torture and International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights.
