support legislation to register guns and license gun owners, just as we register vehicles and license drivers.

Any step we take to change the gun violence culture will be incremental. At the least we should register all guns and license all gun owners, in the same way that we register vehicles (in order to assure they meet safety requirements) and license drivers (so we have some assurance they are capable of using their vehicle safely).
