In 2013, the USDA approved four Chinese plants to export cooked chicken to the United States. The meat must first be imported from the United States or another country that has the USDA approved poultry standards. The plants in China will cook the chicken and export it to the United States for use in products such as chicken nuggets or soup.
China has a history of poor food safety standards, some of which have had catastrophic results. Failure to comply to standards set forth by the USDA at the Chinese plants could impact the heath of those living in the United States.
In this petition, I ask that you join me in supporting legislation requiring labeling of origins and processing locations for all poultry products.
