Plastic bottle and can holders cause detrimental health concerns to marine animals. The plastic bottle and can holders can get caught around the mouths and beaks of marine animals leading to their starvation. The simple act of cutting the plastic loops before disposing of the plastic bottle and can holders is beneficial to the environment. Each year, 9.1 million metric tons of plastic end up in the ocean. Thus, it is not only the individual's responsibility to cut the loops, but bottle and can companies to inform the public of this issue. This petition is to have legislation passed which requires bottling companies to print: "Please cut the loops before disposing" on the plastic holder itself. This project was created as Girl Scout Gold Award Project.
