It is the norm in our courts today for children to automatically be given to the Mother as Principle Guardian and the Fathers must demonstrate that the mother is unfit if they in fact want custody. This is unjust and disregards the importance of a Fathers role in the development of the child. This petition supports any legislation that provides for the mandatory evaluation of both parents prior to awarding custody to one over the other. Children need to be placed with the parent that has the education, financial support and emotional stability to promote the childs development.
