The NRA argues that more guns improve public safety. If so, since the US is home to half the world’s guns but only 5% of the world's population, we should be the safest nation on earth. Unfortunately, "we are quite the opposite”, as Colin Goddard, a survivor of the 2007 Virginia Tech shooting, correctly notes.
The Constitution has always allowed government to enact laws that reasonably regulate private weapons in order to protect public safety.
A significant majority of the American people support increased common sense regulation that will reduce gun violence.
It's time to support legislation that reflects the will of the people.
It's time to reject flawed special interest arguments and obstruction.
“Of the people, by the people and for the people” must prevail.
