We (the signers of this petition) believe that new mothers deserve a maternity leave that still pays them their working salary. The United States is the only developed country in the world that doesn't mandate that women have a right to a paid leave of absence following birth. This is inherently unfair to women who have just gone through one of the most physically traumatic events in their life. The tireless work and increasing role of women in the economy warrants a paid nationwide maternity leave.
