Veterans seeking disability benefits now wait between 300 and 600 days after their application for the VA to respond. During this time when they are in desperate need, they receive no benefits. This is backwards. Veterans seeking disability benefits should be immediately approved until the VA rescinds their approval by acting on their application. The bill should require the VA to respond within six months by having the veteran report to a VA physician within that time period for an evaluation. The physician can approve/decline the application. The VA can then take final action, which can be appealed by the veteran. For veterans who later are afflicted by service-related injuries, especially PTSD, they will receive immediate approval until the VA acts.
