Support the passage of the Military Spouses Equal Treatment Act

Created by J.H. on July 09, 2012

The repeal of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" in September of 2011 created a two tiered system of military benefits. Legally married heterosexual couples receive over 1,100+ federal rights and benefits, whereas legally married same-sex spouses receive few, if any, of those same rights and benefits due to the so-called Defense of Marriage Act. Unfortunately, DOMA prohibits the military from extending medical insurance, housing allowances, military ID cards, and hundreds of other incentives to legally married same-sex spouses.
