On December 3rd, 2012, The National Park Service confirmed that Sandy Hook National Park may not open in time for the 2013 Summer Season due to damage from the storms.
Although the damage is severe, the National Park Service needs to commit to getting this park open. There are six concession stands - only four had damage. There is a 7 mile bike path. This is a large project, but in perspective with the scope of damage in the surrounding areas - it is an achievable project and one which the federal government should support in all of the Gateway Naitonal Park Area.
This park brings over 2 Million visitors to the NJ Shore each summer. The economic impact of these 2 Million visitors to the hard hit surrounding towns is enormous - the cost of them not opening is impossible to measure.
