To support the people of Catalonia to decide over their political future

Created by C.P. on November 29, 2012

We ask for the support of th USA government to the fight for democratic rights of the people of Catalonia.

Catalans lost their independent government in 1714, in which the castilian army helped by the french conquered Barcelona. In 1934 Catalonia won some self government with the new spanish republic, but in 1939 the fascist Francisco Franco took the political power after a very brutal civil war. Catalans were then deprived of their national rights: government, language in teaching, press, etc..
With the death of the dictator Francisco Franco in 1976 some democratic turn was taken by the spanish government, but this has not been enough to satisfy the democratic needs of the catalan people
