Americans deserve a living wage. Today's minimum wage (7.25), although better than it was in recent past, is still far too low for struggling and young people to make decent money; especially when certain corporations are making record profits and all the wealth is flowing to the top.
The minimum wage actually used to be higher from the early 1960s to the mid 1980s if you take inflation into account. Between those years, the minimum wage ranged from a maximum of 10 dollars around 1968, to today's rate of 7.25.
We realize that the minimum wage cannot run too high, but it at least should be able to decently support one person on their own with decent, livable conditions. It should at least be raised by one dollar, but preferably more.
