The American middle class has been under siege for the past 30 years. Our tax code has favored the wealthiest Americans while everyone else struggles from paycheck to paycheck - if they're lucky enough to have a job. It's time to roll back the Bush era tax breaks for the wealthy and to close tax loopholes that allow the richest Americans to pay significantly lower taxes.
We also need to be realistic about Medicare and Social Security. As our population ages, reforms to these programs, such as changes to the eligibility age and less generous benefits, must be included in the calculation if they are to remain fiscally sound for our children and grandchildren.
