support the ratification of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.

Signed in 1989 and brought into force in 1990, the UN convention on the rights of the child is a basic treaty, to establish some of the most fundamental rights of children, such as the right to food and shelter, the right to an education, the right to pick their religion, the right to freedom from physical punishment, and the right be listened to when they speak. The US helped write the treaty and signed it, but never ratified it, and along with Somalia, South Sudan, the Cook Islands, and Niue, is one of the only states that has not. Barack Obama himself, described the US's failure to ratify the treaty as embarrassing, and promised to look into it, but took no further action. We believe that his administration should take a more active stance, and that it should be ratified immediately.
