The Reasserting American Leadership in Space Act, or the REAL Space Act, is a bill that would direct NASA to return to the Moon by 2022 with the purpose of developing a sustained human presence there. If this bill were to be enacted into law, it would challenge Americans to think bigger, invent new devices, that could be as important as the portable x-ray and the MRI, which were created by the space program and have had a profoundly positive impact on society. This bill would allow people all over the country to come together and united around a shared idea, something sorely need with today's extremely polarized political system. A program such as the REAL Space Act would inspire the children in this great country to once again have the desire to be astronauts, engineers, and scientists.
