The Second Amendment was written into the Bill of Rights during the birth of this country. Militias were a common source of defense. With the eventual creation of a permanent standing army, the need for the Second Amendment vanished.
The repeal of this amendment would not affect anyone's rights. It would put the control of firearms in the hands of the Congress and out of the purview of the U.S. Supreme Court. Repeal would, however, put the issue of gun control in the hands of the people, not organizations or firearms manufacturers or the Supreme Court.
