Building an already-planned 350-MW wind farm (designed to expand to 700 MW) off the Rockaway Peninsula would aid the long-term recovery of a region hard hit by Hurricane Sandy and provide clean, independent American energy. Wind power also mitigates global climate change and the sea level rises that cause devastating storm surges.
Please provide generous federal support for this vital work.
In 2008 the New York Power Authority and regional utilities and agencies, with the endorsement of Mayor Bloomberg, proposed the Long Island - New York City Offshore Wind Project, which would been the largest in the U.S. NYPA later quietly put this work on the back burner without community consultation.
It's now time to build!
