The Falklands Islands are a British territory, the residents of which are British citizens who have voted to remain such. As the United Kingdom has fought by our side in conflict after conflict since the first World War, shared intelligence more closely with our nation than any other, and remained the most steadfast friend conceivable among the community of nations, it is the moral duty of the United States to affirm the popular sovereignty of the British citizens of the Falklands in their right to retain their status as a British colony. Argentinian claims to sovereignty over the Falklands are the stuff of mere fantasy, and Argentina has once already started a war of aggression against the Falklands. The United States should stand beside our allies in the justness of their cause.
