On 10/12/12 the Dept. of Veterans Affairs (VA) changed the regulations to receive financial support for a service dog. The change in policy excludes veterans from receiving support for service dogs for mental disabilities like PTSD. VA argues there's "a lack of evidence" to support service dogs efficacy for PTSD. However there are countless personal accounts from veterans about their success. The service dogs perform a variety of actions like waking their owner up from nightmares, to accompanying them in public in a way that makes the owner less paranoid of their surroundings. This issue is so important since 13-20% of the 2.6m veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan have/could develop PTSD. Our veterans deserve the best whether their wounds are visible or not. Reverse this wrongful policy.
