To support, create, and institute the army retirement medal. All new soldiers receive the army service ribbon just for enlisting, that's the first award that starts their career. The retirement medal would honor the end of a soldiers career regardless of twenty years or if they were medically retired. It's a closing out for the last award that shows dedication to our country and our people. The requirements for being awarded the army retirement medal are the soldier has to be retired honorably, the medal would be retroactive so retired soldiers can get the medal using their DD214. It would not be a substitute for the award units give to soldiers for their time in service. The attempt was to award longevity but also supports awarding the medal to medically retired soldiers.
