We request the introduction of legislation requiring gun manufacturers to provide smart gun technology in a percentage of all newly manufactured guns. Smart gun technology usually involves a ring or bracelet with a chip in it that must be within an inch or two of the weapon for it to be fired. Such technology is the best way to restrict the use of guns to responsible gun owners only.
The percentage of new guns that have smart gun technology can be increased gradually over time, while researching the effectiveness of various technologies and giving the gun industry time to develop the best options in a competitive marketplace that will bring down any additional costs.
