The intention of this petition is to alert President Obama, the U.S. State Department, and the Congress that we want our government to support the brave Ukrainians who have been seeking an open, western-style democracy. Without the attention and support from those in the world who treasure a free society; the movement for a free and democratic Ukraine is likely to be crushed by current government leaders. Government corruption is reportedly widespread.
There is another petition that seeks a "no outside interference" position towards Ukraine. However, this is simply providing "cover" for the current government leaders and their Russian supporters to crush the protest movement.
