While President John Sexton proposes to close Tisch Asia under the pretense of financial distress, NYU continues to build new global outposts, expand its presence in NY and provide lavish bonuses to departing executives. According to Dean Mary Schmidt Campbell, "Tisch Asia has been a model of artistic and academic excellence," yet NYU pursues profit above scholarship and disregards its basic obligations to its students. Turning a profit is not a public service, providing an education is. All students deserve transparency and accountability for the federal, state and private loans they acquire for the promise of higher education. We rightfully demand the immediate suspension of all closing procedures and the opportunity to explore all options of keeping Tisch Asia open and thriving
