We encourage The President and The Congress to pass a bill limiting the number of terms that members of The House of Representatives and The Senate may serve, similar to that of the presidency.
On March 21, 1947, The Congress passed the Twenty-second Amendment to the Constitution limiting the President of the United States to serving two terms. However, members of Congress may continue to serve indefinitely, provided they are re-elected by their constituents.
A majority of Americans polled believe that congressional members' preoccupation with their re-election fosters an environment of partisanship, non-cooperation and even obstructionism. Limiting congressional terms will encourage members of Congress to focus on the work of the people and less on their own political careers.
