The USPS Inspector General says banking should be added to Post Office services. The Post Office would expand beyond its current postal money order business into services like, but not limited to:
ATMs at post offices,
Check cashing service,
Pre-paid debit cards,
Loans for small amounts for short terms, i.e. affordable payday loans,
Savings accounts.
Post Office banking would be a great service to communities under-served by commercial banks, victimized by payday lenders, and a money maker for the USPS.
