H.R. 2858:The Wildland Firefighters Protection Act, will provide due compensation to emergency personnel that dutifully put themselves at risk to protect life and property. H.R. 2858 will provide portal-to-portal compensation, which entitles wildland firefighters compensation (pay) for the entire length of an assignment: "inclusive of all time the firefighter is away from their official duty station assigned to an emergency incident, in support of an emergency incident (including wildfires, hurricanes, and other natural disasters to which employees are assigned) in support of an emergency incident, or pre-positioned for emergency response, and shall be compensable as work time..."
The Act also entitles firefighter to "buy back" seasonal service time and credit it toward future retirement
