George Washington is called, “The Father Of Our Country.” Along with Jefferson, Madison, and others, there is no question Washington had a role, but just how many Americans was it that they brought to democracy? Voting was open to land owning white males. It was denied to women, Catholics, Quakers, Jews, Indians, and slaves. In the first election of 1787, less than 1.3% of the population voted.
Susan B Anthony should rightfully be called, “The Mother Of Our Country.” She played the key role in bringing democracy to more than 50% of this nation. In 1980 women surpassed the number of male voters. A title of honor is the least that is owed this great American, Susan B Anthony, “The Mother Of Our Country.”
