Today Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni signed into law harsh Anti-Gay legislation that punishes LGBT individuals in the most draconian ways possible. Prison terms ranging from 14 years (for a first "offense") to life for being a "repeat homosexual offender" are now law. It is also unlawful to provide support, services, etc. to any LGBT individuals. This institutionalizes grave human rights violations, and supports a culture of fear and hatred. As Americans, we must stand against this. According to US government figures, in 2011 alone the US provided over $423 million in foreign aid to Uganda. We the undersigned petition to government to suspend this aid until such a time as these laws are struck down.
