Suspend development of the GTac open-pit iron ore mine in Wisconsin for further due diligence.

Created by R.J. on March 30, 2014

Suspend development by Gogebic Taconite (GTac) of the open-pit iron ore mine in the Penokee Hills in Iron and Ashland counties in northern Wisconsin until the following due-diligence items are met:

1) Ensure that the mining company provides satisfactory proof that it will comply with all environmental standards in a series of fully transparent public hearings. Recent legislation may have skipped this.

2) Ensure that the state of Wisconsin and all of its citizens are fairly compensated for the withdrawal of its mineral resources, not just select members of a specific political party.

3) Ensure that all external costs of the project are fully identified and charged-back to the company.

4) Ensure that this project has a positive impact on the quality of life of all citizens of the state.
