Mass killings should not be a shortcut to name recognition.
In the same manner that media outlets and government agencies withhold the name of rape victims so as not to discourage victims from coming forward, the names of mass shooters or terrorists should not be promoted to encourage other perpetrators.
The Executive branch may not be able to restrict such publication now, but it can revoke press access for outlets that choose to publish the name, image, cause, grievance, manifestos or demands of those who have killed four or more people. Whether the first media outlet to publish said information or one following up. The privilege to talk to the Whitehouse or other federal agencies should not be shared with companies that lack professionalism and respect for the victims.
