We the people ask the federal government to Change an existing Administration policy:

Suspend security aid to Honduras - Support H.R. 5474 - Recognize the 2009 coup and promote a true return to democracy

Created by M.V. on June 18, 2016

The BERTA CÁCERES HUMAN RIGHTS IN HONDURAS ACT, H.R. 5474 states that "The Honduran police are widely established to be deeply corrupt and to commit human rights abuses, including torture, rape, illegal detention, and murder, with impunity” and that the military has committed violations of human rights. Therefore, the bill asks that the United States suspend all “...security assistance to Honduran military and police until such time as human rights violations by Honduran state security forces cease and their perpetrators are brought to justice.”

We petition the administration to support the passage of H.R.5474, to recognize the 2009 coup, and to call for an end to the subsequent repression and targeted killings of opposition figures, and to demand a return to true democracy in Honduras.
