Our current voting system is flawed; it favors the two main parties making it impossible for third parties to win. That's why I propose the switching to the Alternative Vote.
The Alternative Vote is different in several ways. First, you rank the candidates from most to least desired, rather than only casting one vote. Once collected, all the top choices are counted up and the totals are compared. If no candidate has more than 50%, then the candidate with the least votes is removed and all votes for that person get redistributed under their second choice. This continues until a candidite exceeds 50%.
By doing this, people will be given the opportunity to vote for who they want, rather than the one who is most likely to beat the one they don't, without fear of wasting their vote.
