The metric system is far easier to learn and use then the English Imperial system. School children will be able learn and apply it much quicker and quick conversions are not as hard. The US is the only major country (there are only two others and the UK is technically metric) that uses the old system. As the world gets smaller it will be much more difficult for Americans as they travel abroad.
