The Interior Department’s Fish and Wildlife Service on 1/4/12 released a draft environmental assessment that would allow West Butte Wind Power LLC to kill as many as three protected golden eagles over five years if the company fulfills its conservation commitments.
It’s the first eagle “take permit” application to under the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act. (“Take” means to kill, harass or disturb the birds, their nests or their eggs.)
The 2009 "take permit" regulation/law should be repealed or the comment period extended another 30-60 days for proper consideration on the app.
The Bald Eagle/Golden Eagle are majestic and are viewed as the symbol of this country. Their lives should be held sacred just as the American Indian is the only one who can possess one of their feathers.
