The gun control debate is headed in the same old direction—people who want more oversight against those who want more availability. But this argument has gone on forever and produced nothing. It’s time to look at gun violence as a symptom instead of a cause.
If drivers must get eye tests to make sure they should be driving, shouldn’t gun owners get tests to make sure they should be shooting?
Each gun license should come with a required mental health checkup by a licensed psychologist before it is approved, and followed up on once a year to ensure stability.
Newtown can be stopped. Aurora can be stopped. Tucson can be stopped. The answer is smarter laws, and guns in the hands of the right people is something everyone can get behind.
