Tackle Tax Reform: Implement a Value Added Tax (VAT)

Created by S.S. on April 16, 2012

The United States tax code is long, complex and frustrating to understand. As a recent NPR story pointed out, one individual preparing taxes four different ways will likely have four different tax refund or payment amounts. The United States government needs to move its tax code to the 21st century by implementing a new tax policy, such as the Value Added Tax. This tax will more generally tax people based on how much they consume rather than what their income is. It will also help level the playing field by creating a tax system with little loopholes, and even force illegal immigrants and those with incomes from illegal sources to pay taxes. Let's throw out the debate on whether the rich should pay more taxes or not. Let's tax everyone based on what we consume not what we earn.
