On February 24, 2014, Ugandan President Yoweri Musevini signed the Anti-Homosexuality Act into law. The law is a blatant violation of the human rights of the LGBTQ citizens of Uganda; therefore, in light of the White House’s commitment to continue urging the Ugandan government to repeal the law, this petition has been established to request that the Obama administration begin taking action in the form of significant political and economic sanctions. Based on the human rights record of President Musevini, this petition also requests that he be removed from the list of African leaders invited to the US-Africa Summit in August of 2014. Inviting a leader responsible for such legislation to this event would be a betrayal of the fundamental values for which the United States stands.
