We care about the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge, and moreover, the United States environmental policy that stands behind it. The illegal action by these militants threatens the safety and security of federal employees, the security of indigenous artifacts stored there, and the health of the refuge and the wildlife it protects.
Well-established federal law and policy protects the refuge and its employees. This is a serious threat to the Refuge, to our system of government, and to our democracy. Lack of response against these militants sets a precedent, encouraging illegal actions by subversive organizations, including those whose members planned and executed the Oklahoma City bombing. For our safety, your Administration cannot tolerate this mockery of federal law and sovereignty.
