The electoral college system distorts the one-person, one-vote principle of democracy. The fabric of what makes US great, the notion that the voice of the people matters, is wrecked when the electoral college let's diminish that same voice when it encourages a few to decide the route of a nation, regardless of what the majority of that nation thinks. It destroys the notion of democracy where the voice of the majority is supposed to be uphold.
