As the United States faces an election that will affect the economy, civil rights, healthcare, immigration policy and other important domestic issues for years to come, innocent people in Syria are dying. We, as a nation founded on the fight for freedom and opportunity, should not choose now to purposefully turn our heads away from those who suffer and bleed for the very freedom our forefathers fought for. "Human rights" is a reference applicable to all people of all nations, not just those that the the few deem worthy.
