take action to support the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation and its residents, who are among the worst off in the nation.

The Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, in South Dakota, is regarded as one of the poorest places in the United States. Per capita income is just about $6,000 a year, and an estimated 80% of the 28,000 to 40,000 residents are unemployed.
The reservation is ravaged by the effects of unemployment, alcoholism, and diabetes. The poor nutrition of these residents results from issues caused by poverty and the availability of affordable, healthy food on the reservation.
It is imperative that this administration seriously consider the suffering of these people, the failing of our government to fulfill its treaty with the Lakota people, and provide for them the resources needed to survive, as well as the opportunities to provide for themselves in the long run.
