Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease, is a degenerative disease affecting the neurons within the brain and spinal cord. As the disease progresses, muscles within the body become atrophic. This continual degeneration often leads to complete loss of voluntary muscle movement and eventual death.
The ALS Association has been the leading organization for bringing awareness to and raising funds for finding a cure to ALS. Currently, there is no cure.
The "Ice Bucket Challenge," to date (as of 8/12/14), has helped raise an astonishing $4 million in donations. Many celebrities have taken the challenge and, We The People, believe the "Leader of the Free World," President Obama, should come forward and take the challenge.
