Not to allow state governments to decide whether same sex marriages is constitutional, but allow the national government to set a standard for all gender combinations to get married, equally. (Think of racism in the 1960's, African Americans were a minority to the super power of whites, and now we have an African American President) (Just like today with homosexual couples being a hated minority by most heterosexual couples)
