The DPRK has been operating a series of concentration camps for decades in which arbitrary arrest and detainment, mass starvation, torture, sexual violence, and executions are the norm. Over 1,000,000 people have already died in such camps.
A recent commission of inquiry led by the UN Human Rights Council found that "systematic, widespread and gross human rights violations have been and are being committed by the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, its institutions and officials. In many instances, the violations of human rights found by the commission constitute crimes against humanity."
While the matter has been recommended to the UN Security Council, the Chinese government has vowed to protect the North Korean regime. The US must spearhead decisive action to end such horrors.
