In the wake of yet another needless and tragic school shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary, we petition the President of the United States and the United States Congress to come together and implement common sense gun control legislation.

The Second Amendment was written in 1791 when a skilled marksman could fire a single shot every 15 seconds. Today that's enough time for anyone, regardless of ability, to kill dozens. Our forefathers never imagined the lethality and ease of our current firearms; we need to update our laws accordingly.

We recognize that there are legitimate reasons for gun ownership and that wishful thinking, like establishing "gun-free zones", will not solve the problem. There will be no single solution, but that does not absolve our elected representatives from trying
