To take direct action to save the UNESCO-heritage site Palmyra from destruction at the hands of the terrorist group ISIS

On May 21st the international-terrorist-group ISIS seized control of Palmyra, a UNESCO-heritage site dating back to the Hellenistic and Roman eras.
ISIS has systematically destroyed historical sites in Iraq, including the Assyrian complex at Nimrud dating from the 7th Century B.C. and the museum of history in Mosul.
Palmyra will meet the same fate and be destroyed at the hands of ISIS if direct action is not taken to save the site. The U.S. government has the ability to prevent such an act and President Obama has Congressional authority to take action.
This petition calls on President Obama to use his authority to prevent the destruction of Palmyra. Urgent and direct action is needed to prevent the destruction of yet another UNESCO site of the utmost worldly importance.
