General William Sherman was a general for the United States during the American Civil War. He is responsible for terrible crimes against southern civilians during the war. When approaching Atlanta he ordered his artillery to fire on buildings in the city saying “No consideration must be paid to the fact they are occupied by families, but the place must be cannonaded.” in addition to targeting civilians he destroyed the city and much of Georgia for no immediate strategic purpose. As Americans we should not celebrate but denounce those who shamelessly and seamlessly kill and destroy. "The war will soon assume a turn to extermination not of soldiers alone, that is the least part of the trouble, but the people (of the south)" - General Sherman 1862 in a letter to his wife.
