Thank you for taking the time to recognize a very serious issue taking place in our nation.
I am an 18-year old student at a local community college. At the age of 12, my mother was murdered by a Georgia-State police officer. It deeply saddens me to be a first-hand witness of the misuse of power that we, the people, have given the police to protect us and our rights.
I'm ashamed to say, that in this great and powerful nation in which so many have died for, that I am far more afraid of being killed by a local police officer than I am of a terrorist attack.
All U.S. police officers are to be retrained and limited to their use of deadly weapons. Legal consequences for those officers who abuse the power of the badge need to be sharply elevated.
The "shoot-to-kill" method is getting old.
