Scientific and economic analyses show the window for cost effective avoidance of dangerous climate change (exceeding a 2 degree celsius increase in global mean temperature, relative to the pre-industrial average) is closing. We ask the Obama administration to take a global leadership position in preventing this looming social, economic and environmental catastrophe by immediately:
1) Committing the United States of America to binding greenhouse gas emissions reductions consistent with at least a 66% chance of respecting the 2 degree target
2) Committing to these emission reductions without waiting for international consensus.
We the People, citizens of the USA, citizens of the world, both the living and the not-yet living beseech this administration for meaningful action.
