In light of recent events, I urge you to consider realistic policies in order to protect our children, teachers, and all supporting staff in public education institutions.
History has taught us that violent shootings are increasing in frequency. Many of these tragic events could be prevented with two simple measures. My proposal to our federal government is as follows:
1. All public schools should be required by law to have one primary entrance, which is equipped with a metal detector. All other doors are to be locked from outside persons, and can be exited in emergencies only, at which time an alarm will sound.
2. All public schools need be staffed with at least one full time armed security officer. This officer must pass all background and mental health checks and be fingerprinted.
